On 27 November 2025 ETH Zurich presented the Spark Award for the most promising invention, which resulted in a patent application in the past year. The criteria for the evaluation are originality, patent strength and market potential. The winning technology is:

POP-cycle: electrochemical recycling of organic pollutants into hydrocarbons and table salts
Inventors: Patrick T. Domke, Alberto F. Garrido-Castro, Bill Morandi

ETH transfer is a member of swiTT, the Swiss technology transfer association.  

ETH transfer features in the swiTTreport. The annual swiTTreport is the most comprehensive analysis of the technology transfer activities of Swiss public research organisations. The report covers two main areas, a) research collaborations of the participating institutions with private or public partners, and b) the activities for the economic exploitation of research results from these institutions.
